Interior Design Project in Porto: The Creative Process of a 1950s House

This interior design project for a 1950s house in Porto was developed during the pandemic and remains one of the projects we most enjoyed being a part of.

At the time, the project wasn't professionally photographed. Even so, we believe the process deserves to be shared.

This article showcases several images documenting the project's evolution, from initial concepts and client presentations to final on-site installation. We present the ground floor (floor 0), comprising the living room, dining room, and staircase, as well as one of the children's bedrooms on the first floor (floor 1), designed for a girl.

The architectural project was already underway when we were invited to take on the interior design. Our goal was to create spaces that respected the identity of the house, reinterpreting it with a contemporary language and touches inspired by the design of the 1940s and 50s.

The concept phase allowed us to define the atmosphere of each space through materials, colors, textures, and references, establishing a solid foundation for the development of the project.

As the project evolved, each division was refined down to the smallest detail, balancing functionality, comfort, and aesthetic coherence.

It's always rewarding to see a project come to life. Although there are no professional photographs of the final result, these images of the assembly process allow us to see how the ideas materialized and how each element found its place.

The dining room and staircase follow the same design language as the rest of the ground floor, reinforcing the connection between the different areas of the house. The choice of materials, shapes, and decorative touches sought to enhance the existing architecture, introducing subtle references to the design of the 1940s and 50s, reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

Going up to the first floor, we find a completely different environment. This room was designed for two girls, favoring a palette of pastel tones, soft textures and delicate details, creating a welcoming, serene space designed to accompany their growth.

In the following articles we will show the rest of the project: floor 1, with the access hall to the bedrooms, the master bedroom and the boy's room, and finally, floor -1, where we developed the office, the hall and the guest room.
